Lucy always had certain ideas about unicorns. In her mind, they were gentle creatures, wise and mysterious and noble.

These ideas were, however, completely divorced from reality. In reality, unicorns were anything but.

Unicorns were prey animals, hunted for their horns by humans and for their meat by nearly everything else. This made them skittish and nervous creatures, prone to bolt at the merest hint of danger. And if they couldn’t run, they would bite and kick and gorge their way out. The day Lucy first saw a unicorn use its horn as a weapon wasn’t a day she’d forget.
